President’s Message

When I joined Toastmasters in 1994 I was looking for help to be able to speak in public.  I had heard about programs that offered training to overcome that  nervous feeling of dread when you had to speak before others or in a public forum.  Most of these programs were expensive.  I attended my first meeting and realized that perhaps this was the answer.  After a few more meetings I knew it was the answer to my problem.  I found a friendly, supportive group of people.  Toastmasters have been in existence for many years and have a proven track record.  Their approach works.  Each time a member fills a role or prepares and delivers a speech they are given positive reinforcement, offered suggestions to improve in a supportive, encouraging manner.

The skills learned at Toastmasters will be useful in your everyday life.  When you are asked to give an opinion, a toast, a eulogy or best wishes you will be able to do so because you have learned how at Toastmasters.  In addition you will learn how to conduct a business meeting using Roberts Rules of Order as a guide.
The learning doesn’t stop at speaking.  You will find that the Leadership Tract in the Toastmaster’s program teaches how to become a leader.

As President of the Dartmouth Toastmasters Club I invite you to attend a meeting at our club and I am sure you will see the benefit.
