The Toastmasters experience takes place in a club setting. A typical Toastmasters club is made of 20-30 members who gather regularly (usually once a week). A Dartmouth Toastmasters meeting lasts two hours and consists of the following:
- Introduction
- Business session, where club business is conducted and members get a chance to practice parliamentary procedures, using Robert's Rules of Order
- Table Topics session, giving members the opportunity to participate in impromptu speaking situations
- 10 minute break
- Prepared speeches, based on projects from the Communication and Leadership manual and from more advanced manuals, presented by club member
- Evaluation session, during which each speaker is provided with valuable feedback regarding the strengths of the speech, and provided with information that will assist in problem areas
- Closing
